NovaWind (Rosatom's wind power division) took part in RENWEX 2023 Renewable Energy & Electric Vehicles International Exhibition and Forum. NovaWind CEO Grigoriy Nazarov spoke at the session 'Strategy for Green Energy Development in Russia in the Age of Change: Where to Find New Growth Points?'.

The discussions at the forum centred on the measures needed to keep up the momentum in the industry, ensure further development of technologies and expansion of industrial cooperation within the country, and carry out new investment projects under the current constraints.

Discussing the existing situation in the renewable energy cluster, the experts stressed that the renewable generation sector was adapting to the new conditions. They also highlighted the need to maintain the pace of development, current and planned production programmes, and plans to increase local content and competitive power of Russian products. It was noted that clean energy technologies were an important element of the ESG agenda, which remained relevant as part of the overall effort to preserve the climate and protect the environment. The work to deliver 'green' projects will continue.

"In terms of strategy, the renewable energy sector is definitely promising as we will have to tap every energy source available in the energy-deficient market. We have a strong foothold with a synchronous grid covering almost the entire CIS. The synchronous grids are in many ways a single market, operating in deep integration. The penetration of wind and solar in our macro region will be extensive, and we want to be prepared for that. Investors, including those from Russia and friendly nations, believe in this sector; and competition is severe. The renewable energy sector is attractive for both industrial and energy companies. The expert community maintains a consensus on that and is ready to invest. All the processes running now are more than relevant and essential," said Grigoriy Nazarov, CEO of Rosatom's wind power division.

The forum also hosted an award ceremony for the winners of the Renewable Energy of the Planet 2023 competition organised by the Russia Renewable Energy Development Association (RREDA) in association with the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The competition was held from March till May 2023. Over that period, the organizing committee received more than 25 projects in three categories from students, postgraduates, young researchers and leading industry experts from Russia, the CIS and other countries. Alexander Lavrik, a fellow researcher at the Saint Petersburg Mining University, won the Renewable Energy Technology and Solutions category with his project 'Wind and photovoltaic facility with a pneumatic solar tracker'.

"On behalf of NovaWind, I congratulate all the contestants, finalists and winners! We are glad to see so many young professionals willing to contribute to solving global climate challenges with their boldest ideas and cutting-edge solutions for renewable energy," said Olga Ukhanova, Head of the Development Project Support Office at NovaWind.
