RES and green innovations at RENWEX 2023
The topic of the first day of the RENWEX 2023 conference programme was Renewable Energy Sources, Green Innovation and Energy Saving.
The opening event was the Session on Strategy for Green Energy Development in Russia in the Age of Change: Where to Find New Growth Points?
The discussion participants included representatives of the Russian State Duma, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Russia Renewable Energy Development Association (RREDA) and the industry’s leading companies.
Commenting on the state of production of Russian RES equipment, Mikhail Kuznetsov, Head of the Department of Machine Building for the Fuel and Energy Sector of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, said, in particular, “As of the end of 2021, we could state that we have established production of solar and wind power generation equipment in Russia with a total capacity of 700 and 800 megawatts per year. We expect that we will be able to supply all planned capacities with Russian equipment.”
Andrey Maksimov, Director at the Department of Power Engineering Development of the Russian Ministry of Energy, highlighting a set of measures to stimulate the development of the renewable energy sector, stated that the amount of state support for renewables has been maintained. Moreover, more installed capacity can be achieved through cheaper domestic production. He also stressed the importance of long-term government support so that participants in the green electricity market can build their production chains over the long term.
Valeriy Seleznev, First Deputy Chair at the Russian State Duma Committee for Energy, focused on the competitiveness of the Russian renewable energy sector. “I see that in the current market conditions, we can only look for technological partners in China. We need to change our strategy, we need to change the conditions of investment tenders, change the eligibility criteria of participants in the selection process, and accept only Russian companies that have their own technological solutions. In this way we can ensure technological security and sovereignty of our future energy model,” said Mr. Seleznev.
“Our manufacturers should have full access to technology and design documentation, but to do that we need to invest many times more money in R&D,” says Alexey Zhikharev, Director at the Russia Renewable Energy Development Association (RREDA). “Our R&D lags behind the world by several orders of magnitude. If we want to create a national, technologically advanced industry of equipment for the renewables, we have to pay more attention to scientific work and design development. This is extremely important.”
Grigory Nazarov, CEO at NovaWind, Dmitry Borovikov, Deputy General Director for Strategy, Production Portfolio Management and Trading, Vice-President at Fortum, Fedor Opadchiy, Chair of the Board at System Operator of the Unified Energy System, Mikhail Andronov, President at Rusenergosbyt, and others spoke about various aspects of green energy development in Russia.
The first day of the RENWEX 2023 conference programme included a number of other events for exhibitors. One of the panels focused on the use of recycled coal energy materials in renewable energy development. It was supported by the Russia Renewable Energy Development Association (RREDA) and the National Association for the Development of Recycling Raw Materials (ARVIS).
The Corporation for Development of the Far East and Arctic held the Session on Development of Local Renewable Energy in Remote Areas of the Far East and the Arctic.
The Technology Session on Development of Carbon-free and Renewable Technologies in Russia in the Age of Change concluded the day. The event was supported by the EUROSOLAR Russia Non-Profit Partnership for Development of Renewable Energy.
