RENWEX 2022 international exhibition and forum opened at Expocentre Fairgrounds
“Creating the future of renewable energy together” is the slogan under which the RENWEX 2022. Renewable Energy and Electric Vehicles international exhibition and forum started at Expocentre Fairgrounds today.
As Sergey Selivanov, First Deputy Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO, noted at the official opening ceremony of RENWEX 2022, the exhibition is being held for the third time. Over the years, it has already established itself as an effective platform for demonstrating cutting-edge developments in the field of renewable energy sources (RES) and electric vehicles. It is also a place for dialogue and exchange of experience between leading experts and representatives of the energy industry.
Sergey Selivanov said that this year more than 70 companies from Russia, China, Switzerland, France and Austria are exhibiting their solutions and technologies at RENWEX 2022. Russian participants are represented by companies from 6 federal districts and 14 regions of the Russian Federation. This year, the Salon of Electric Transport and Charging Infrastructure Stations has significantly expanded its scale, said the First Deputy Head of EXPOCENTRE AO.
He expressed profound gratitude to the Russian State Duma, the Russian Ministry of Energy, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Russian Energy Agency, the Russia Renewable Energy Development Association, the National Oil and Gas Forum, the Russian Association of Wind Power Industry, the Russian Solar Energy Association, the EUROSOLAR Russia Non-Profit Partnership for Development of Renewable Energy, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs – to all partners who supported the organisation and holding of RENWEX 2022.
In his welcoming speech, Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education and Chairman of the NTI Expo Organising Committee, stressed that the use and harmonisation of both traditional and renewable energy sources became very important in the current new geopolitical and economic realities. Today, it is obvious that the Russian renewable energy sector needs a new model of development based on its own production base, he is convinced.
The exhibitors, visitors and organisers were also warmly congratulated on the opening of the exhibition and forum by Andrey Maksimov, Director of the Department of Electric Power Industry Development of the Russian Ministry of Energy, Valery Seleznev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, and Nikolay Rogalyov, Rector of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.
After the welcoming speeches the first thematic session of RENWEX 2022 ‘The green economy and the decarbonisation of the Russian industry: a reset and new growth points’ started immediately. It was moderated by Irina Gaida, an expert from the Skoltech Energy Transition and ESG Centre.
The tone of the discussion was set by Evgeny Gribov, Director of the Department of Machine Building for the Fuel and Energy Sector of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. In his opinion, the topic of green technologies is strategic. And for our country it is not a tribute to populist rhetoric, but a certain strategic choice, since green technologies ultimately contribute to higher energy efficiency and energy saving, he said.
Continuing the theme, Andrey Maksimov from the Ministry of Energy, in his turn, reminded that, as it was defined back in 2014, RES development in the Russian Federation should go through localisation, and subsequent events have shown the correctness of this path. The federal project Clean Energy has been approved in our country. More than 5 gigawatts of RES generation are already in operation. By 2030, 13 gigawatts are planned. "There is a lot of interesting work ahead of us," summed up the expert.
According to Alexey Zhikharev, Director of the Renewable Energy Development Association, today is a period that can be called a second chance for the Russian economy to become more independent from traditional hydrocarbon sectors and move towards a high value-added industry in various sectors. "And here we are primarily talking about the low-carbon agenda, because it is already clear that the current century will pass under the banner of green technologies. We are seeing massive investments in the decarbonisation of the global economy," he explained.
At the session, experts discussed various aspects of the topic and exchanged opinions.
RENWEX 2022 runs until June 23.
