International practices and prospects of RES in Russia: focus of the Forum “Renewable energy for regional development”

19 / 06 / 2019

The participants in the panel discussion within the Forum "Renewable energy for regional development" at the RENWEX 2019 exhibition spoke about international practices of RES development and their possible introduction in Russia.

Deputy Director of the Innovation and Technology Center at the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA Roland Roesch pointed out to great prospects of widespread development of RES.

He spoke about the difficulties in implementing the renewable energy projects and recommended using Project Navigator, a special tool developed by IRENA. The tool allows avoiding typical mistakes at all stages of preparation and implementation of RES projects. Project Navigator contains recommendations to develop a portfolio of projects and choose them, laws, search for sources funding, and other important issues.

Managing Partner of Eclareon Christoph Urbschat emphasized a growing trend towards microgeneration in Europe stipulated by the increased competitiveness of RES. According to him, nowadays even small size households and individual customers can afford to connect to these sources of energy. To assess the effectiveness of RES projects, Eclareon developed a special program launched in many countries including Russia. Europe's experience in RES funding was analysed by the representative of SKM Market Predictor Viktor Balyberdin. He also mentioned reduction in government support of RES projects. According to the expert, the necessary conditions for sustainable development of RES are return on investments for manufacturers, decrease in prices for customers, growth in RES and efficiency.

The session speakers also shared the experience in the RES development in the Andalusian community of Spain and the projects implemented by the world's leading companies.

CEOs and specialists of leading research centres, industry associations, and major companies from Russia, Germany and Switzerland took part in the panel discussion devoted to the necessity to support innovative R&D for RES development. The session was moderated by Chairman of the Board of NP "EUROSOLAR Russia" Georgy Kekelidze.

The Forum sections were also dedicated to promising technologies for energy supply systems in remoted and isolated energy systems, electrochemical technology in RES, the current state of the world market of biofuel and its development prospects in Russia, growth in the global market of electric vehicles and realization of investment programs aimed to create the necessary infrastructure in this country.
